Part 1
It’s been two days since the fierce
battle with the Demon King Army general, Sylvia.
Thanks to the efforts of everyone in
the village, reconstruction is progressing at an incredible rate. At this pace,
things will be back to normal in a couple of days at most. Advanced magic
really is something else.
With magic, they level the ground
and cut down trees. Earth Golems and summoned demons rebuild the houses in no
time.
“We’ll head back home once
everything’s fixed. No matter how many times I see it, this is crazy… Kind of
hard not to feel bad about Sylvia, though. She sort of died for nothing…” I
muttered while overlooking the village from the top of a hill.
“Why are you feeling sorry for the
enemy?” Megumin asked, shaking her head. “More importantly, there’s still some
time before the reconstruction is finished. Since you’re bored, how about I
show you around some of the tourist attractions you haven’t seen yet?”
“No. No more of your tourist traps,”
I shot back immediately. Seriously, most of them existed just to scam visitors.
Like the shrine that worships a catgirl figurine, or the so-called legendary
holy sword embedded in a rock… which was put there by the village’s weapon shop
owner.
I came here expecting to be wowed.
Weren’t the Crimson Magic Clan supposed to be a distinguished order of
super-wizards?
Instead, it’s just a whole village
of Megumins…
“Hey, isn’t that Aqua over there?”
Megumin suddenly pointed ahead.
I followed her gaze and, sure
enough, Aqua was talking to some elderly man.
“That’s Pekonyan, the oldest member
of the Crimson Magic Clan, he’s rather eccentric.”
“Everyone here is eccentric.”
An old man with a weird name like
that, huh? Now that I think about it, it’s going to be weird calling Megumin
and Yunyun by their names once they’re older…
“Hey, Megumin, why don’t you change
your name before you become an old lady?”
“How dare you say something like
that! If you have a problem with the amazing name my parents gave me, then say
it to my face!”
Ignoring the furious Megumin, I made
my way over to the old man. If even Megumin considers him eccentric, then maybe
he’s a somewhat normal person. Like Yunyun.
And I don’t have anything better to
do anyway.
“It’s a curse, I tell ye! A curse
from the evil spirits! This village is cuuuuuuuursed!”
“That’s terrible! Leave it to me!
With my goddess powers, I can exorcise any curse!”
…Nope. He’s actually eccentric.
Seeing Aqua get all fired up immediately
made me regret coming here. I want to punch myself for expecting normalcy from
the Crimson Magic Clan.
“Hey, this guy’s a total weirdo.”
“That’s what I said! Normally, when
members of the Crimson Magic Clan grow old, they set out on a journey to find
someone stronger than themselves and meet a glorious end. But Pekonyan ignored
our Crimson Magic Instincts and just stayed in the village.”
Are you people like cats or
something?
“Yeah, but he doesn’t seem
eccentric. Just a senile old man blaming all his misfortunes on a curse…”
“No, that’s pretty normal. Pekonyan
did go on that journey, but then he came back. That’s why everyone labels him a
coward. When a clan member meet their glorious end, their names are engraved in
the Chronicles of the Crimson Magic Clan. But only those who met a glorious end
are immortalized.”
Why does the Crimson Magic Clan have
to be so weird?
I mean, the guy clearly got scared
and came back. Poor guy, I’d do the same.
Just then, Pekonyan turned and
yelled in our direction, “You two! Lass an’ outsider! Listen tae me words! It’s
cursed! The Crimson Magic Clan is cuuuuuursed!”
“Megumin! My name is Megumin! I’ve
known you since I was little, and you’ve been ranting about this curse ever
since! Remember my name already! Me-gu-min!”
“I don’t wanna get involved in this…”
But knowing my luck, there was no escaping this fate.
“This village is cursed! Haunted by
an evil presence! Young ones, won’t ye listen tae me tale…?”
To summarize: the village is cursed.
And everything bad that happens here is because of the curse.
“It’s because of the curse that I’ve
never won the lottery, why I lost all me money at the Running Hawkite races,
an’ why me wife left me…”
“I think those might’ve been for…
different reasons. Hey, let’s just go play with Komekko.” I turned to leave,
but the old man grabbed my arm.
A shiver ran down my spine.
Is this the pressure of a powerful person?
Even if he’s a senile old geezer,
he’s still a Crimson Magic Clansman. He’s bound to be strong.
“Kazuma, don’t you have a
conscience? Let’s help the old man. We have nothing else to do anyway!”
“What’s up with you? Where’s your
usual lazy personality?”
Seriously, she’d normally be the
first one to want to ditch this and go have a drink.
“Think about it, Kazuma. What if the
curse is the reason why the Crimson Magic Clan have those weird names and why
they’re all chuunibyou?”
“Ohhh, that could actually explain
it!”
“Hey! If you have complaints about
our naming sense, then say it to my face!” Megumin fumed but then suddenly
froze. “…Wait. Could a curse be the reason my family is so poor!?”
“It’s all because of the curse! The
cuuuuurse!”
“Then the curse is probably why your
shirt got all ripped when I washed it and—”
“Wait, what did you just say!?”
That night.
“—We'll help the old man tomorrow.
You're coming too, right, Darkness?”
“So, while I wasn't with you, you
got tangled up in trouble again…”
Back at the village's only inn, Aqua
reported to Darkness what had happened earlier. Megumin's home, where we had
been staying, was destroyed during the battle, so we were staying here for now.
“Aqua, that old man has been
rambling about curses my whole life. It's nothing new—he's always been like
that. You don't have to take him seriously, okay?”
“What are you saying, Megumin? My
divine eyes can see it clearly—the Crimson Magic Clan is cursed! If we don't
exorcise it, your chest will stay as flat as a table forever!”
“Hey! The reason I haven't…
developed more… is because my family was too poor to afford proper nutrition!
…Darkness, stop looking at my chest like that! There's no curse! I'm sure
they'll grow as I get older!”
Darkness gave a wry smile as she
tried to calm the enraged Megumin. “Well, we have time until reconstruction is
finished. If we can help an elderly man, I see no problem.”
Hmm…
“Fine, but I'm calling in backup.”
The three of them looked puzzled,
but I had a bad feeling about this and decided to take out some insurance.
Part 2
The Next Morning
After finishing our preparations, we
gathered at the village’s entrance.
“Leave it to me! I'm the strongest
member of the Crimson Magic Clan, after all!” Yunyun declared, pumped up.
“Ha!” Megumin cried in protest,
veins popping on her forehead. “Seems your recent performance has gone to your
head! That title belongs to me!”
“Whaaat!? Kazuma asked me to come
because you're unreliable!”
The old man said the curse
originated from a mysterious large rock on the village outskirts. If we destroy
it, the curse will be undone. Simple enough.
The area surrounding the Crimson
Magic Village is crawling with high-level monsters, so of course, I sought help
from a proper Archwizard.
“Kazuma, what is the meaning of
this? This is my hometown! I know this place like my own backyard! Are you
telling me I'm not enough to handle this!?”
“That's exactly what I'm saying,” I
shot back immediately, causing the joke mage to grit her teeth. “Look, the
supposed cause of the curse is a rock. Destroying it is your job. But since you
can't use magic on any monsters we might run into, we need backup.”
Megumin folded her arms and closed her eyes. “...I see. I understand.
No problem, then. I'll leave the monster cleanup to Yunyun.”
Yunyun sighed in relief as Megumin’s mood did a complete turnaround. “Hey,
Megumin. Haven't you gotten dumber since you left the village?”
“It's not that my Intelligence has dropped! My other stats have just
increased! Let me show you!”
As Megumin lunged at Yunyun, Aqua glanced around. “Is the old man not
coming? He said he wanted to see the rock destroyed. I figured he'd be here.”
Now that she mentions it, I hadn’t seen him all morning.
“He probably went ahead. You know how old people wake up early. Anyway,
Darkness, you take the front. Aqua, you're on healing. I'll be on the lookout,
and Yunyun is the party’s firepower. All in all, I’d say we’re a well-balanced
party. We should be fine.”
“You didn't mention me!”
“Megumin you’re going to break my shirt!”
The forest surrounding the Crimson Magic Village is one of the best
habitats for high-level monsters in the country.
All the monsters here are strong. Normally, I’d rely on my Stealth
skills to avoid them, but—
“AAAAAAAAAAAH! KAZUMAAAAA!”
“I told you to keep quiet! Why did you have to sneeze so loudly!? Are
you physically incapable of not causing trouble!?”
It was a mistake to think this would be a safe trip. Not long after
entering the forest, a monster called Greater Panda started chasing us.
“Yunyun, you're the party's firepower! Do something about the monster!”
“Stop relying on me only when it’s convenient! You distract the panda
while I cast my spell!”
The two Crimson Magic Clanswomen were yelling at each other. I didn't
care who did it—just do something about the monster already!
Despite looking like a goofy, oversized panda, the way it knocked down
trees made it terrifyingly ferocious.
“Decoy!” Darkness, bringing up the rear, turned around. “Leave it to
me! I'll distract it! I repaired my armor while you were fooling around in the
village!”
She proudly showed off her freshly polished armor.
“Ugh, such a beastly way to attack!” Darkness grunted, bracing herself
as the panda slashed at her.
She… seems to be enjoying it.
“Darkness, get down! Freeze Gust!”
A spray of white mist enveloped the Greater Panda, freezing it solid.
Darkness looked a little chilly, but otherwise unharmed.
We finally caught our breath.
“Hey, Yunyun, is it dead? Pandas are cute… Do you think if I resurrect
it, I could keep it as a pet?” Aqua stepped toward the frost-covered panda.
“The spell just froze it. It's still alive… but please don’t do that.”
“Aqua, it’s illegal to keep Greater Pandas as pets. They’re too
dangerous. You can keep Lesser Pandas, though…”
“No more pets. Chomusuke and Aqua are enough of a headache.”
Aqua puffed up indignantly, ready to argue, when something else dawned
on her. “Wait… it attacked us the moment we entered the forest. That means—!” she
gasped, “It’s because of the curse! The same curse that made me sneeze so
loudly! It wasn’t my fault!”
“Just apologize! Otherwise, we’re leaving you here!”
“Sorry…”
Ignoring Aqua, I surveyed the area with my Enemy Detection skill.
Darkness brushed off the frost off her armor and approached Yunyun, “You
don’t have to rush your spells Yunyun, it’s fine if you take your sweet time
before helping me.”
“Ah, thank you…? But that’s not a problem. Everyone in the Crimson
Magic Clan trains to chant quickly for situations like these.”
I tensed, “Something’s coming! Darkness, take the front!”
A swarm of small creatures was approaching fast.
Part 3
After Yunyun wiped out all the pandas, we headed deeper into the
forest.
She called them Lesser Pandas. Seems pandas in this world are very
different from the ones I know.
“Kazuma, I think I’m starting to hate pandas…”
“Hey, did you know that pandas are omnivores? They eat meat too, not
just bamboo. Also, they’re surprisingly aggressive.” Now that I think about it,
Yunyun kind of sounds like the name a zoo panda would have. That’s probably why
I remembered that fun fact, “Hey, do you hear something?”
“Yeah, I heard a ‘pyaaa’ sound.”
I’m getting a bad feeling about this. The sound is getting closer.
“Kazuma, Kazuma, see? I didn’t do anything this time! It’s definitely
the work of a curse!”
“It’s just your innate ability to cause trouble! Although, it is rare
for it to happen in such quick succession.”
Seriously though, what’s going on? Could the curse actually be real?
“Whatever the case, let’s get out of here. No matter how strong Yunyun
is, she’ll get exhausted fighting so many monsters. I’ll use my Stealth skill
to hide us. Everyone, hold on to me tightly.”
Following my orders, everyone grabbed onto me—except Yunyun, who just
pinched the hem of my shirt.
“Yunyun, this isn’t the time to be embarrassed. Hold on properly!”
“A-alright! …Like this?” Yunyun tried to look serious, but her face was
bright red.
Darkness, who was holding onto my left arm, smiled wryly. “From what
I’ve heard, the closer we are to the person using the Stealth skill, the better
the effect. Everyone, get closer!”
“I’ve never heard of that—” Megumin’s protests were cut off by the
approaching sound.
I quickly activated my skill.
(Kazuma, don’t move so much… Or are you pressing your arm against me on
purpose?)
(Aren’t you the one pushing your chest into his arm!?)
The two whispering idiots started arguing.
(I don’t mind if Darkness does it, at least there’s something there. If
you do it, it’s basically the same as nothing.)
(What did you just say!?)
(Hey, Kazuma, why do you always ignore me in these situations? I don’t
get it, but it pisses me off.)
(Everyone, shut up! It’s getting closer…)
At Yunyun’s desperate plea, we all held our breath.
(Pyurrrrr… Pyu? Pyu?)
What appeared was a small, bipedal lizard, like something straight out
of a dinosaur movie. It let out a strange cry, sniffing the air as if searching
for us.
Despite using my Enemy Detection skill, I couldn’t sense it. What’s up
with that?
It doesn’t look strong, though. More cute than anything.
There are five of us—we can probably take it. Keeping my Stealth
active, I slowly reached for my beloved, strangely named sword…
“Waaaaaaaaaah! Kazumaaaaaaaaaaa! What the hell did you do that for?!
You always call me dumb, but you’re the real king of idiots!”
“I had no idea this would happen! That dumb lizard looked like a
low-level monster! How was I supposed to know it was this strong?!”
(Pyaaaa! Pyaa!)
The lizard kept making its strange cry as it chased Aqua and me.
The moment I tried to attack, it countered with a kick. Maybe thanks to
my Stealth skill, it couldn’t pinpoint my exact location, so the kick missed my
head—
Instead, it chopped a tree clean in half.
“That’s a Knee-kick Runner! A powerful monster that hunts down prey
with furious bursts of speed and devastating knee strikes! They’re related to
Lizard Runners and Kicking Runners—”
“This is not the time for trivia! One knee-kick from that thing and I’m
dead! Darkness, Yunyun, help!”
(BYAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!)
The monster kicked off the ground at full force, shattering another
tree in an instant.
“Kazuma, watch out!”
Just as the lizard’s knee strike was about to hit me, Darkness threw
herself between us.
A dull, heavy impact rang out as metal groaned under the force of the
blow. Darkness let out a pained grunt.
If it can hurt her like that, then I’m doomed.
“Hold it down for a little longer!” Yunyun’s eyes glowed red as she
approached.
“I can hold it… for a while!” Darkness gritted her teeth as the monster
slammed its knee against her again. “They say a Knee-kick Runner’s strike can
shatter boulders! Hrrk… And after knocking out their prey, they trample them
into the ground! Ngh—!”
I was going to thank her for saving me, but… she’s clearly enjoying
this.
“Damn that curse! To think we’d be cornered like this—”
“This isn’t the curse! This is a Kazuma-made disaster!”
“Darkness, don’t move. Lightning Strike!”
A bolt of lightning fell from the sky, striking the Knee-kick Runner
dead-on. It twitched violently, then collapsed.
“Oh man, I’m so thankful to have a real Archwizard helping us.”
“Who’s the fake Archwizard here? You better explain yourself, Kazuma…”
Part 4
The monster attacks continued in more or less the same way—Darkness
defended us while Yunyun took them down.
For some reason, my stealth skills were completely useless, as if the
monsters already knew where we were.
“This is weird. I know this forest has powerful monsters, but the
encounter rate is absurd. This place is a struggle for survival; there aren’t that
many monsters, and they usually avoid each other…”
“Yeah, even during school trips, we never ran into this many…”
…they used to come to this dangerous place on school trips?
“It’s the curse!” Aqua declared. For some reason, she was always the
first to be targeted. “The source of the curse is resisting exorcism because
I’m its natural enemy!”
“Come on, it’s obvious the whole ‘curse’ thing is just an old man
slowly going senile.”
Aqua tilted her head. “What are you talking about, Kazuma? You know I’m
an expert on curses, right? The Crimson Magic Clan is absolutely cursed.”
“What?!” Everyone yelled at the same time.
“Wait, wait, seriously!? The curse is real!?” I instinctively turned to
Megumin and Yunyun.
It’s probably not pleasant to hear that all your family and friends are
cursed.
“How can we possibly be cursed? The Crimson Magic Clan are all good
people… Ah, could this be the doing of the Dark God? Or the Nameless Goddess?
Perhaps Cat-Ears is mad at us!?”
“I remember our teacher saying that long ago, the clan summoned a God
of Destruction but ended up calling something else instead, and it got away.
Could that be it?”
“I’d be surprised if you weren’t cursed! You lot are always messing
with things you shouldn’t!”
Darkness raised a hand. “Wait, Aqua, you knew all along? But I thought
you hated curses. You’re always the first to purify them…”
“I was going to, but it turns out people here like being cursed. Oh, by
the way, I lifted the curse off Megumin and Yunyun after I met them.”
Megumin clapped her hands. “Oh! So that’s why the water turning into
blood, the sudden electrical discharges, and all the other strange phenomena
stopped after I met you. Yunyun and I thought having so many Crimson Magic Clan
members in one place was causing an uncontrollable effect on the surrounding
area.”
“You people…”
“But I think most people won’t like the curse being gone. When I was
little, I used to play pretend games where I’d act like I couldn’t control my
powers at night.”
Yunyun suddenly raised her hands. “Then maybe the curse is the reason I
can’t make friends!”
“Sorry, that has nothing to do with the curse,” Aqua said, trying to
cheer up the dejected Yunyun. “Anyway, the old man asked me to exorcise the
curse. I have to grant his request.”
“You know,” I muttered, “I’ve been wondering—why are you so concerned
about the old man?”
“It’s obvious, isn’t it?” Aqua puffed out her chest. “Because I’m a
goddess.”
“What does that have to do with
anything—?”
“H-Hey, Aqua, I don’t mind being
cursed…” Darkness suddenly cut in.
“If you’re cursed, you’re moving
out.”
After a while, we reached an open
area. In the center stood a massive rock.
“You finally made it, youngsters!
I’ve been waitin’! Waitin’ a real long time…” The old man was standing in front
of the rock.
Part 5
The rock was wrapped in shimenawa[1],
giving it an air of dignity—unlike the tourist traps in the village, this one
actually had a majestic aura.
“You’ve been waiting a long time?
Just how early did you get here? I know old people wake up early, but this is
ridiculous! Anyway, do we blow up the rock?”
“Aye, lad. This rock is the source
of the curse. An abominable existence that’s brought countless tragedies upon
the Crimson Magic Clan…” The old man glared at the rock, then shook his head
with a sigh, “Nay, this rock’s not to blame. It’s me fault… fer bringin’ the
rock here…”
“Mr. Pekonyan…” Yunyun muttered
softly as we listened to his monologue.
“It was about a month after I set
out on me journey in search of a glorious end… I found this great rock in a
shrine far, far away…”
“And sensing the rock’s danger, you
brought it here so the Crimson Magic Clan could take care of it?”
The old man shook his head again at
Darkness’ question.
“Nay, I just thought it looked cool
and wanted tae show it off tae everyone.”
“…Let’s go home. I honestly hate
this village.” I turned to leave, but the old man grabbed my hand.
“Young people these days are so
short-tempered! If any other Crimson Magic Clanner had found the rock, they’d
have been impressed by its presence and taken it home with ‘em, no doubt about
it!”
“That’s ridiculous! Like, come on—!
Megumin, stop nodding in agreement!”
“I understand, Pekonyan, but we’re
supposed to destroy the rock, right? Then it’s finally my turn! It’s rare to
find such a unique rock, I’ll use all my power!” Megumin clenched her fist
excitedly—
“Sacred Highness Exorcism!”
—only for Aqua to unleash her magic
first.
A white magic circle appeared
beneath the rock, light soaring into the sky. An instant later, the rock
crumbled into pieces.
As Megumin stood in stunned silence,
Aqua puffed her chest, looking smug. “With someone like me, an unknown evil
spirit is nothing—Ah, Megumin, what are you doing!? This was my job, stop!”
Aqua bolted as Megumin tried to slap
her.
“I-I-I can’t believe it…! Was the
curse… really exorcised…?”
“Of course! You can relax now, old
man. Now help me calm Megumin down—I don’t get why she’s so mad!”
But the old man wasn’t listening. He
reached out his trembling hands toward the remnants of the rock.
“It’s true… I can’t feel any evil
presence. Ah, what a relief… Now I can…” Overcome with emotion, his eyes welled
up with tears.
“Do you have any regrets? Are you
ready to rest in peace?” Aqua asked, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“Hey, that’s rude! He may be an old
man, but he’s still healthy! He’ll probably live for a few more years—”
“You’re the one being rude, Kazuma!”
Aqua huffed. “The old man’s been dead for a long time. He’s a ghost who haunts
the village—just like that ghost girl in our mansion.”
…
“What!? That makes no sense! You
should be angry too, old man. She’s calling you a ghost!”
“But I am a ghost.”
“Huh!?” I froze in shock.
Megumin clapped her hands. “I see,
so that’s why Pekonyan would occasionally float around. I thought it was a cool
power he had.”
“How can you be so calm!? Mr.
Pekonyan is a ghost! I’ve talked to him since I was little, and now I find out
one of the few people I’ve spoken to all my life was already dead…”
While Yunyun crouched down, holding
her head, the old man spoke cheerfully.
“After I brought the rock here, I
learned it was the source o’ the village’s curse an’ tried all sorts o’ ways
tae exorcise it… but I died before I could do anythin’. I’ve spent every day
regrettin’ the trouble I’ve caused.”
“No one actually believes there was
a curse. Everyone just enjoys the odd things that happen to us.”
“Megumin! Mr. Pekonyan is telling us
something important—stop interrupting!”
“Bein’ a ghost isnae so bad, though;
I occasionally peek into the women’s bath. But regardless, I’m filled wi’
regret…”
“This ghost is clearly an evil
spirit. Aqua, exorcise it.”
“You’ve wasted our sympathy. Time
for you to rest in peace.”
The two Crimson Magic Clanswomen,
young enough to be his granddaughters, immediately turned on him.
“Ha! Ye young folks have nae sense
o’ humor! Ye’ve been called geniuses all yer life, yet ye cannae understand a
simple joke! Sexual harassment remarks like that are just a formality!”
“What’s wrong with this ghost?”
“Mr. Pekonyan, the more you talk,
the more you taint my childhood memories. Please shut up!”
Part 6
After causing quite a fuss, the old
man finally seemed ready to rest in peace.
“Stop that, Aqua! Lady Eris will
punish you.” I scolded Aqua for trying to convert the old man to the Axis Cult
before sending him to the afterlife.
“So, this is really farewell. You’ve
annoyed me plenty, but as the new generation of the Crimson Magic Clan, we’ll
be sure to remember you.”
“Ghosts count as people, right?
Otherwise, I won’t be able to say I’ve talked to at least one person every day…”
As we all sent him off, the old man
smiled gently.
“…He doesn’t seem to be
disappearing, though.”
“What’s the matter, old man? Don’t
you know how to get to the afterlife?”
“…Hmm. Seems I still have some
regrets…” He glanced at Megumin and Yunyun.
“…I have a bad feeling about this.”
“As ye know, we members o’ the
Crimson Magic Clan look for a glorious end tae our lives… but all I did was
find this rock…”
Megumin took a deep breath, as if
understanding what he wanted.
“Well, I guess we’ll have to take
care of that.”
“Wait, me too? Do I have to fight
Mr. Pekonyan!?” Yunyun asked in a panic.
Megumin removed her eyepatch and
gripped her staff, ready to give it her all.
“Of course! Even if he’s a ghost,
our opponent is a veteran Crimson Magic Clan member! Are you saying I should
face such a foe alone?”
“B-b-b-b-but…! Fine! Mr. Pekonyan,
I’ll bring you down with all my might!”
Well, at least they were motivated.
Yunyun is usually a sensible person, but this is her clan, after all. It comes
with the territory.
“Do you want our help?”
“We’re fighting a ghost; Darkness
and you are useless. And if Aqua fought him, it’d be over in an instant—that’s
no glorious end! We’ll have to do our duty and take him down ourselves!”
Darkness and I nodded and took some
distance to avoid getting caught in the fight. As for Aqua, she simply watched
with amusement, satisfied as long as the old man found peace.
The three Crimson Magic Clan members
faced each other in the remains of the rock, their eyes glowing with
excitement.
The old man looked moved.
“I’m sorry, both o’ ye… I never
expected things tae end like this. Yunyun, I always thought ye’d be so lonely
ye’d befriend terrible people an’ turn evil,” he turned to Megumin. “As for ye,
I thought ye’d just starve tae death one day, wi’ yer family bein’ so poor. I
never, EVER thought ye’d find a party, wi’ that awful personality o’ yers—”
“All right, that’s it! Yunyun, let’s
send this man to the afterlife!”
“I’ll leave the finishing blow to
you! I’ll never forgive him!”
The old man smiled as the two got
into position. Raising his hands over the remnants of the rock, he declared,
“My name is Pekonyan! I am the
greatest ghost o’ the Crimson Magic Clan, an’ I’m about tae journey tae the
afterlife! I am an Archwizard who has transcended death an’ awakened the power
o’ darkness!”
Megumin’s eyes widened.
“Hey, that’s totally unfair!
Transcending death is cheating! You get to say all kinds of cool things!”
“Don’t focus on that! What is this
‘power of darkness’!? Could Mr. Pekonyan still be able to use advanced magic
after death—!?”
Before Yunyun could finish, the old
man swiftly chanted,
“I won’t use deadly magic against ye
lasses, but I willnae go easy on ye either! Tornado!”
“Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Kazumaaaaaaaaaaa!”
“Why were you so close!? Get over
here!”
“This is deadly magic!
Yunyun, let go of your skirt and do something!”
“But then everyone will see my
panties! …Ah! Tornado!”
Holding her skirt down as best she
could, Yunyun counterattacked with teary eyes.
“Here’s a treat for the
audience—Control o’ Weather!” As the old man shouted, the sky was quickly
covered with thick clouds.
A sudden downpour drenched Yunyun
and Megumin, their clothes clinging provocatively to their skin.
And then, the two tornadoes collided
head-on!
“So this is a battle between Crimson
Magic Clan members! Amazing—I can’t take my eyes off them!”
“Kazuma, you better not be looking
at the wrong places—! Ah!”
“Ahhhhh! Branches and rocks are
flying toward us!”
Rather than canceling each other
out, the tornadoes merged into an even larger one. Darkness and I had to hold
onto each other.
“Do something, Yunyun! This is
getting worse! I won’t be able to cast Explosion magic like this!”
“Shut up! I’m all wet and everyone
saw my panties! I’ll deal with the tornado!”
Giving up on her modesty, Yunyun
raised both hands.
“My name is Yunyun! My calling is
that of an Archwizard, master of advanced magic, and the most skilled of the
Crimson Magic Clan! One day, I will become the village chief! Thank you, Mr.
Pekonyan—thank you for talking to me when no one else would! Light of Saber!”
A sword of light, capable of cutting
through anything depending on the user’s magic power, sliced the massive
tornado in two.
The wind settled almost immediately,
giving Megumin just enough time.
“My name is Megumin! I am Axel’s
greatest magic user and a master of Explosion magic! My goal is to become the
strongest mage in the world! Go in peace—for you’ll fall by my hand!”
“Until ye defeat the Demon King,
ye’ll just be a wee little lassie tae me!”
“Then after I defeat him, I’ll come
back and offer you some incense!”
The old man smiled at Megumin and
Yunyun, as if looking at his own grandchildren.
“Explosion!”
That day, another name was added to
the Chronicles of the Crimson Magic Clan.
